Sadly, Jimmy Carter hit the nail on the head

Jimmy Carter's comment about Joe Wilson's comment was right on the nail, sad to say. The Republicans, and Rep. Joe Wilson right along with them, are furious that the American public would elect the President, and their conduct indicates their wrath is at a very deep level. It is sad that we have this in America. Some Republicans don't think that way. Some are decent Americans. But for the most part, the party has been captured by the irreligious right, and it's going to bring them and the country down with it.
