A recent news article stressed our focus on math and science. This unlies a big weakness in our appraoach to education. What's the weakness.
Our lack of emphasis on history. We push history into the background. American history is whitewashed over, as is history of the world. Our students come out with little understanding of what made this country, and how we relate to other peoples.
What this does is give our people a very distorted picture of our history, and what results? A large segment of our population bases its beliefs and actions on a very distorted view of history and our role in this world.
